Sept/ Nov 2004 - group 6, 7 and 8 - Teachers visit to Poland
'Getting to know you' We design a calander for the school-year with fotographs and drawings. We'll start with a project-corner and noticeboards in the classrooms or/ and on a central place in the school. We design a logo to recognize the project.Intended Activities
'Glad tidings of great joy' How do we celebrate Christmas and New year? We'll send postcards, little presents and a menu with traditional food to cook in the schools, also at home.Nov/ Dec 2004 - group 3 - 8
Show me your house, your way of living. Make a diary of one day and collect these pages on age-level to copy for every participating child. A 'quartet-game' ('happy families')Apr/ May 2005 - group 3 - 8
Music and dance in connection to parties, celebrations and cultural traditions. We're going to exchange tapes or CD's with traditional children's songs and dances(maybe also traditional costumes).June 2005 - group 3 - 8
Teachers visit to the Netherlands Organize a 'Crossing Border day' for pupils, parents, colleagues from other schools, representatives of the local community and other interested people. Also will be invited the local press. All elements of the exchange of the year will be showed.2005/2006
Sept/Oct. 2005: Memory Games
Development of initial ‘Dutch Game’ as a means of extending language skills amongst partner schools. Memory Game or Matching Game with pictures on a separate card and words on another. Use of every day items to encourage language development. Circulated around partner schools. Game which can be used from infant classes up to older childrenOct./Nov. 2005: Project Meeting
First project meeting of the new year. Will be held in Mondoubleau, FranceNov./Dec. 2005: Our area
Pupils will engage in taking photographs of their local area. This will include their homes, the local village or town, landscape, important features or buildings. Some will then have a piece of text attached and emailed to partners. The final product will be a compilation of all the photographs taken, along with text and put together as a booklet of the local area. Booklets are then forwarded on to partner schools and each school has a guide to local area. Booklets can be available for visitors to the school to look at. Christmas cards and letters exchanged for a second year.Jan./Feb./Mar. 2006: Time for geography
As a development to our local travel guide, the older pupils will learn about important cities and places of interest within the partner schools. This is a ‘journey’, which crosses all borders, and pupils will use a variety of means to research. This will include appropriate books, CDs and the internet. Result will be an extended travel guide to include the other countries. Pupils in partner schools will develop worksheets which will enhance the learning and stimulation of other pupils. They will include appropriate questions which pupils can answer by using the research already carried out. Development of European Map. Younger pupils can also learn about partner countries by using a ‘travelling bear’ who can journey ‘around’ the various countries. A simple diary would be kept of where he has visited and what he has seen. This work will all be built into Geography schemes for this term as the main focus of learning.Apr./May 2006: Time for history
Pupils will undertake a study of their own local History with an aim of creating a short History booklet for partner schools. Focus will aim to be on a significant episode in history such as the Titanic or the life of Anne Frank. Booklets will be produced and forwarded on to partner schools accompanied by worksheets to develop understanding of the local history. Where possible, schools will be encouraged to include a presentation of facts either through a CDrom or perhaps a video presentation of the project. As with Geography, this will be built into school schemes as a focus for the term. Older pupils will carry out research using various methods such as the internet, local library. Younger pupils will be able to provide illustrations.May 2006: Project Meeting
Staff and pupils will make a project meeting visit to Northern Ireland in order to evaluate year 2 of project and to plan the details of third project year.June 2006:
Crossing Borders Day 2nd Crossing Borders Day. Invitation extended to parents and local community involved with the school. Completion of evaluation reports for school and national agencies.2006/2007
September/October 2006: Preparation for Musical
Schools will develop a ‘Crossing Borders Musical’ for Christmas. This will involve elements from all participating countries. A story will be written amongst staff and music added. Partners will send each other the results on DVD.October/November 2006: Project Meeting
First project meeting of the final year. This will be to Ongoing preparation for Christmas musical.November/December 2006: Christmas
Early December will see the final version of the ‘Crossing Borders’ musical. All pupils involved Musical will be videoed and exchanged within schools to watch. Schools will carry out a final exchange of Christmas cards and decorations.January/February/March 2007: European Union
Schools will study in-depth the European Union. The older children 8 – 11 year olds may take a specific area of study. A small project within each class could be linked to Geography. Study of the changes in Europe, new member states, currency and its changes along with the various languages and cultures which exist. Each school and its classes will have the freedom to choose its areas of study. Liberty and freedom in Europe, in the world, in your own lifes.April/May 2007: What connects us?
Through the use of the English language we will look at how we have lives which are similar and different. Study of such areas as language, music.

Boris, a plush teddy bear joined CROSSING BORDERS project in November 2005 after meeting in Mondoubleau. The aim was to involve younger pupils with project ideas. A traveling bear helped children to “cross the borders”. Boris visited pupils’ houses in the Netherlands, France, Britain and Poland.
